THE COMMISSION PROCESS
STEP 1: IDEA
I prefer to have a conversation with the client and have a few photographs sent to me of ideas to work with. This connects me to the scene and the understanding of what resonates with you, the Client. Once the viewpoint is agreed upon, I begin. I am able to work mainly from photographs or live models.
STEP 2: RESEARCH
I connect with each project by exploring the structure, form, and colours, to physically, emotionally, and historically, which assists in capturing the essence of the artwork and helps in the composition of the painting.
STEP 3: BUILDING LAYERS
I focus intently on building the artwork. I am conscientious of the timeless quality of art and I only select clean, gallery quality canvas. Using various layers of paint, I ensure the artwork is structurally sound.
STEP 4: THE DETAILS
Fine details will take the longest. I intuitively use the textures of thick paint with a pallet knife to build, and then add fine detail with a paintbrush. The relationship between the canvas and the built up paint is symbiotic; I foresee how the paint will bring the surface to life with the textures of the background. Several layers of paint are applied, bringing the artwork to life. A clear semi-gloss, UV protective varnish is applied.
STEP 5: DELIVERY & INSTALLATION
Custom boxes are designed to protect the work. A Certificate of Authenticity is included as well as installation directions. Lighting is paramount in showing off your custom artwork. Your custom piece has many dimensions, and lighting the work appropriately activates it's magic. I am happy to recommend lighting and the ideal space.
